They are free, but how much do they cost? Competitions of events agency, are very rarely paid... but do represent a cost to agencies and to the entire chain, including customers. To find out how much they cost, the French association of event agencies (ANAé), has just completed a study of its members on the cost of the competitions.
Verdict: The agency cost is 6,000€ on average, a figure that grows naturally over 10,000€ for medium or large events. This figure must be multiplied by the number of agencies, so the figure easily surpasses 12,000€ per competition... And this does not include other costs: the providers, and the client time to manage the bid.
ANAE stresses the absurdity of this situation, reminding that the client keeps the same agency in 63% of cases. The association advocates for investing this time in a closer relationship with agencies, optimising budgets, improving creativity...
The recession has further exacerbated this problem with a proliferation of competitions, reduced budgets, a requirement for increased formalism, shorter lead times and competitions with no clear objective.
Competitions are useful, but their abuse is bad for the industry, recalls ANAE, which has published a guide for good relations between clients and agencies.
