A little bit of history..
"An intriguing, unknown vintage lady holding an umbrella and reaches out to us. “La Dama del Paraguas” is a symbol in the Ciudadela Park, inside Barcelona Zoo. This beautiful sculpture was created by Soler Roig for the Universal Exhibition of 1888 and nowadays takes more than 100 years next to children and adults. For many years this ornamental fountain was one of the most beloved symbols of Barcelona which still retains some symbolic value. It´s a classic nineteenth-century sculpture depicting a bourgeois lady with a umbrella. Its location makes it not so easy to visit by tourists which explain the gradual loss of prominence. You have to think that this sculpture was once a symbol of modernity. It may seem strange, but very few sculptures of that time show women wearing contemporary clothes because normally was wearing Roman robes ..."
