A venue for events in Palma del Río (Córdoba)
Alcázar Palacio de Portocarrero stands in the town of Palma del Río, where the Guadalquivir and Genil rivers meet, 50 minutes from both Córdoba and Seville. On a site of Roman origin, Sultan Abu Yacub built a 12th-century Almohad fortress whose walls still enclose the grounds; in 1505 the Portocarrero family completed it as a palace. Restored by its owners since 1989, it is now a Site of Cultural Interest and remains a lived-in residence.
As a palace for events in Palma del Río, it combines covered and open-air spaces: the covered Renaissance courtyard, the Palm Courtyard with arches and centuries-old palms, the 6,000 m² Hispano-Mudéjar garden with the Living Orange Museum and its more than 400 citrus varieties, a gala dining room with an imperial table, and interior halls with tapestries and period furniture. Ridley Scott filmed scenes of Kingdom of Heaven here.
