GENESIS, an immersive scene between dance and technology

Between December 27 and 30, more than 800 people passed through GENESIS in Barcelona, with several daily screenings. A premiere that served to test the format and see how this type of immersive proposals find their place when they are approached from the experience and not from the immediate impact.
An artistic project with its own identity
Can technology be sensitive? Can a digital scene move without the need to explain itself? For more than a decade, Girasomnis S.L. has been working precisely in this territory. The studio develops projects that cross contemporary dance, video art and original music to build scenic experiences where the visual does not illustrate and the sound does not accompany, but dialogues with the body in movement.
In GENESIS, this research crystallizes in a creative universe that is not conceived as a closed piece. It is a living project, designed to adapt to different spaces, formats and cities without losing artistic coherence. The proposal is articulated from an abstract and poetic narrative that explores the origin of life, the energy that connects people and the relationship between human beings and technology, leaving room for individual interpretation.
The dream as a conceptual axis
One of the clearest pillars of GENESIS is its focus on sleep as a space of freedom. The show proposes a pause from the constant noise, the hyper-connectivity and the demand for continuous attention that marks contemporary life. For fifty minutes, time is diluted and the environment invites us to slow down.
“Genesis is also an ode to sleep as a vehicle for freedom, an invitation to travel with eyes closed and to fly. It is an experience that proposes to disconnect from the noise and stress of modern life to immerse oneself in a dreamlike universe where everything is possible,” says Paco Gramaje, director of the project.
This dreamlike dimension does not remain in the discourse. It materializes in the way in which each scenic element comes to life and dialogues with the movement, generating a constant sensation of transit between the real and the imagined.

Immersive and measured staging
The premiere in Barcelona opted for a very specific immersive format. The space was transformed by a 33-meter curved LED screen that surrounded the audience at 270 degrees, combined with a 7.1 surround sound system. This configuration did not seek impact for its own sake, but rather to create a continuous environment in which image, sound and movement were part of the same experience.
The technical collaboration with Fluge Audiovisuales Barcelona allowed a precise work in image, lighting and audio, taking care of aspects such as the depth of blacks, visual contrast and sound spatialization. On this technical basis, the use of technology is articulated from an artistic point of view.
Advanced visual creation tools such as Notch One and Cinema 4D generate three-dimensional digital environments in real time, synchronized with lighting, sound and scenic movement.
The visual design is supported by 3D projections and mapping techniques that turn the space into a mutable environment, capable of reacting to what happens on stage. Added to this is the use of motion capture systems applied to the performers, so that the body not only occupies the digital space, but activates and transforms it, establishing a constant dialogue between the physical and the virtual.
The sound design, conceived in 7.1 surround format, reinforces this sense of immersion. The sound moves, envelops and places the viewer within the scene, contributing to a deeper spatial perception. The result is a living environment in permanent transformation, where technology accompanies and amplifies the emotional experience without imposing itself on it.

An accessible emotional journey
On stage, the performers go through different emotional states ranging from calm and contemplation to euphoria and an explosion of energy. There is no linear story, but there is a recognizable emotional arc that guides the audience intuitively. GENESIS connects with audiences of different ages and sensibilities. Younger audiences are carried away by the visual magic and movement. Adults find deeper layers of reading related to memory, the passage of time and the need to reconnect with that essential that is often hidden under the daily routine.
An adaptable format with a long life
Beyond its immersive version, GENESIS is conceived as a flexible creative platform. It can be adapted to theaters, auditoriums, festivals, cultural centers, museums or special events, adjusting its scale without losing its artistic identity. Its modular nature also allows the development of meetings with the creative team, workshops or talks that expand the experience and generate dialogue with the environment.
After its premiere in Barcelona, GENESIS now begins its tour of other cities in Spain and international circuits. A path that confirms an increasingly clear trend in the cultural and events sector: the interest in experiences that do not seek to impress, but to involve. Proposals that are not consumed quickly, but stay, even after the lights go out.
