´Event skin' (piel de evento) was the claim of this 17th edition of the eventoplus awards, building on Spanish expressions linking skin to emotion (think of goosebumps for instance), and reminding that events are the ultimate emotion builder. Finally reunited, the who’s who of the event industry enjoyed this 17th edition without distances and without masks, and celebrated the fact that it is once again possible to create amazing experiences and push boundaries with events. Celebration, emotion, reunion, joy... If you've been there, you know what I'm talking about, and if you haven't, get ready for next year's eventoplus Awards gala. Here's a summary to relive it a little, with Cordoba as the official sponsor this year. By Paula Rey and Eric Mottard

Again, in Espacio Ibercaja Delicias and finally without distances or masks

At last year’s Gala we inaugurated (almost almost) the Espacio Ibercaja Delicias and as the experience was more than positive, we repeated this year in the same venue, this time with a triumphal entrance imitating the arches of the mosque of Cordoba, a photocall to immortalize the moment… (all installed by Cordoba as official sponsor of the Gala).

In case you didn’t know, the Best Celebration Event category broke the record for the number of nominations in the same category, with 33 nominations! And that was noticeable yesterday, there was a desire to party, to celebrate, to get together not so much to work but to be a united human group again. The presenter Marcos Canas made us feel united. If you want to see all the photos of the Gala, take a look at our social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

´Event skin’ was the claim

Precisely this imperative need to ‘touch’, that has exploded over the past 12 months has inspired the theme of the gala: ‘event skin’. Because events create ‘epidermal’ experiences, give ‘goose bumps’, have a lasting impact (love brands get tattooed, in fact…), connect humans as only touch can do, and become more and more tech, but they can never stop being very touch.

This theme was applied throughout the event, from the graphics to the presenter’s script, always remembering this emotional power of the event and of direct contact, from a big hug to open the event to a game where you tattoo your table neighbour (with a marker, don’t worry…). A message about the love of events.

Just as we saw in the nominations (with the supremacy of the face-to-face event), the day of the gala the return to the big time of the face-to-face event stood out with its enthusiasm, its improvised networking (long live serendipity!), its laughter, its excitement, its hugs. In total there were 610 professionals from the sector toasting (and we had a full house). And, as we will probably continue to do (we have all entered the hybrid era…), we increased the reach of the event thanks to Enbex’s streaming.

Many special moments to remember

The event was sponsored by Córdoba, a destination that is strongly positioned to host events, based on its attractions (AVE, Mosque and three other World Heritage Sites, gastronomy…). The city was present with its famous arches at the entrance, a photocall and a stand offering one of the destination’s famous wines. The cocktail was the moment of the reunion of this community, hugs and laughter included. Then, once in the marquee, we all enjoyed a pleasant and informal gala as is the tradition of these awards, with a lot of humour in the script narrated by Marcos Canas as every year, a lot of rhythm in the presentations with short speeches and quick transitions (no… awards ceremonies don’t have to be the most boring events ever), DJ Marco Saremo entertaining between categories, emotional moments such as the tribute of the Bacus Events team to their director who passed away a few weeks ago, moments of celebration such as the 10th anniversary of Hands For Events celebrated on stage with cake included, and many others. You know: an event!

The army behind the event

For another year, Meliá Hotels International sponsored these awards, accompanying as always, the community of events and meetings professionals as they do throughout the year. And the Ibiza Convention Bureau and its Palacio de Congresos sponsored the Best Convention category (you know where to hold your next conve…).

The gala alternated between the awards ceremony and the delicious dinner served by Vilaplana Catering. We thank them and the whole army of committed collaborators (that we recommend for your events). The event was held in one of the marquees at Ibercaja Delicias; Elenco provided the audiovisuals and live production; Enbex provided the live streaming; Vilaplana was in charge of the (fabulous…. ) gastronomy and the welcome cocktail; Diageo provided their liquors for the final drink of the dinner; Aluzine Rentals provided balloons (from Airstar) to decorate the cocktail party and the stage; the Eventwo app allowed the registration of guests and attendance control as well as the seating; Workout provided the set-up and dismantling staff to move and help with the set-up; Hands for events with hostesses for the various guest service functions; Artificio as trophy supplier; Jesús Antón as photographer/videographer during the gala and on set-up; Lago empedrado for the catering work tent; the DJ table was provided by Paraddax; and Srta Templeton for the creative concept, management and execution. And, of course, the presenter Marcos Canas, who is the reference for these awards!
