TOP congress destination

In recent years, Finland has consistently ranked among top 20 congress destinations in the world. Around 700-800 international association meetings are held in Finland annually, attended by more than 80,000 delegates. Finns are experienced event organisers, and all services are first class; in a recent FCB survey, nine out of ten congress attendees found the safety of Finnish host cities to be either good or very good. As a bonus, Finnish friendliness received special thanks.

Accessibility, innovations and High Education Attract Meetings

Situated in the heart of Northern Europe, Finland is easy to access from anywhere in the world. Around 200 international flights arrive at Helsinki Airport each day: there are direct connections to Helsinki from more than 140 destinations globally. All major European destinations are covered with direct flights. In addition to this, Finnair, the national airline, flies via the most direct route from Helsinki to 19 destinations in Asia. Several other cities in Finland are also served by direct international flights.

Leading universities, specialised hospitals and research institutes help attract international congresses to Finland. Finns are experts in the fields of technology, biochemistry and medicine, among others.

High educational standards have contributed to the emergence of high technology – Finland has more internet connections per capita than any other country.

One of the world’s most competitive countries is a technologically advanced nation that lives in harmony with the exotic nature of the north and is a unique combination of east and west.

A Wide Range of Meeting Venues

Finland offers a variety of high quality venues; everything from a conference center for 10,000 people to an intimate log cabin for 20 can be found here. Altogether, Finland offers 10 venues that can accommodate 1,000 to 10,000 persons, and the largest fixed meeting room has 4,400 seats.

Nordic efficiency

The compact size of Finnish cities makes it easy to explore them on foot. These small metropolises are all the more attractive because they are tidy and safe. In Finland, you can also rest assured that matters will be handled fluently and efficiently.

Clean Nature – a Finnish Asset

Finland is a land of countless lakes, forests, fells and archipelagos – it is one of the most extensive and unspoiled natural environments in Europe. It is also a country of contrasts, the Midnight Sun in the summer and the Polar Night and the Northern Lights in the winter serving as great illustrators of that.

Activities in the white summer nights include river rafting, sailing schooners or river boats, fishing, golfing and biking, just to name a few.

Winter activities come in the form of snowmobile, dogsled and reindeer safaris, winter driving academies, snow karting, ice breaker cruises and more. In wintertime buildings crafted from snow and ice are great for hosting dinners and get-togethers – or even spending the night, if feeling adventurous.

Sustainability

Finland has been amongst the happiest nations in the world for several years now according to the UN’s World Happiness Report, and we Finns largely attribute our happiness to the connection we have to nature. Preserving nature and adopting sustainable practices is a key issue nationally in Finland. To help the travel & meetings industry towards more sustainability, Visit Finland has developed the Sustainable Travel Finland programme.

Majority of congress venues and hotels in Finland have been granted an environmental certificate and have a strong commitment to a sustainable society. Even the hotels that don’t have an official eco certificate, do have an environmental plan regarding food, water, cleaning, laundry, waste management and energy consumption.
