Oviedo

Oviedo, capital of that Natural Paradise that is Asturias, is, in addition to the administrative center, the neuralgic, geographical, cultural, university and health center of an autonomous community known for its hospitable spirit.

Oviedo treasures an extraordinary architectural wealth spun through history on landmarks such as the pre-Romanesque monuments distinguished by UNESCO with the title of World Heritage, the Cathedral and its reliquary of the Holy Chamber and the first Royal Pantheon of Spain or the beginning of the Jacobean Route, with its kilometer 0, in front of the same basilica in El Salvador, which indicates that the Origin of the Camino de Santiago.

Culture is another of the hallmarks of Oviedo, which develops activity throughout the year in Campoamor, the great lyrical theater of Asturias, with festivals and seasons of opera, zarzuela and ballet, and the Auditorium-Palacio de Congresos Príncipe Felipe, where more and more concerts of current genres are joined to the international classical music program.

The city also makes gastronomy the central protagonist of some of its more traditional festivals such as El Desarme or La Ascensión, with its own menus.

This is a city of services with a business that struggles to maintain its traditional stores together with chains and franchises, settled in an environment in which pedestrian areas abound, in which Oviedo was a pioneer in the 90s, and which have long since expanding, now in small operations of the so-called tactical urbanism, with closures to traffic in feasibility tests.

Oviedo, with a University for more than 400 years and with a Central Asturias University Hospital built with the latest technical and organizational advances, attracts numerous professional meetings each year, both from the associative and corporate markets.

In addition to meeting rooms in numerous hotels in the city, Oviedo offers two large municipal facilities for meetings, the Felipe Auditorium-Conference Center and the Conference and Exhibition Center, which depend on the Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Congress. For any congress, day or convention held in the municipality, the City Council provides a wide range of aid, starting with a call for subsidies, while encouraging business activity through the freedom to contract services.
