Independently audited statistics for the European Incentive Business Travel and Meetings show 2004 (EIBTM) in Barcelona reveal a 47 per cent increase in visitor numbers.

Of the 6,102 visitors: 2,503 were hosted buyers (a 16.8 per cent rise on 2003), 3,300 were trade visitors (a rise of 75 per cent) and 299 were press. The number of exhibiting companies, 2,700, was a 57 per cent rise on 2003.

2004 was the first year that the event has been held in Barcelona. The previous show was held in Geneva in May 2003.

Paul Kennedy, group exhibition director, commented: “We want to ensure EIBTM continues to grow and become ever more truly representative of the industry it serves – we were particularly delighted to see eastern Europe increasingly represented as one of the many emerging markets.â
