In this context, the Grupo eventoplus Sports and Events Europe event emerges, with its record-breaking new edition presented yesterday at FITUR during a press conference held at the Málaga city stand.
The presentation of Sports and Events Europe was led by our colleague José García-Aguarod, the event’s director; Málaga City Council’s Tourism Councilor, Jacobo Florido; and Sports Councilor, Borja Vivas. This event is established as the largest gathering dedicated to sports tourism in Europe and will take place in Málaga on the 25th, 26th, and 27th of this year.
With Málaga chosen as the host city, it aims to establish itself as a leading destination for major international events, thanks to a combination of top-notch hotel and sports facilities, a diverse tourist offering, and favorable weather. As Florido highlighted, “Sports and tourism form the perfect combination to position the Málaga brand on the international stage.”
A Global Projection Event. Sports and Events Europe 2025, a professional forum in the sports tourism sector, will bring together 450 companies from 40 nationalities, including over 200 buyers and sellers from Europe, the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Thailand, and other countries. Over two days, attendees will have the opportunity to discover what Málaga has to offer, participate in business meetings, and experience the city’s sports and tourism offerings firsthand.
José García-Aguarod highlighted Málaga’s selection as “a city with top-tier facilities, convenient access to services, a rich cultural and gastronomic offering, and the full support of the City Council.”
Sports tourism is consolidating itself as an economic driver. Data from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) supports the significance of sports tourism, a segment that represents around 10% of global tourism and generates more than 700 billion dollars annually. In Málaga, this sector has seen notable growth over the last decade, hosting athletes, events of this nature, and specialized conferences. Florido also reminded that in the past year, Málaga has hosted events such as the Copa del Rey basketball tournament, the Billie Jean King Cup, and the Davis Cup.
An Integrated Sports and Tourism Offering. The organizers emphasized Málaga’s commitment to diversifying and expanding its sports offerings. In addition to traditional sports, the city promotes emerging disciplines such as hockey, rugby, and water sports, taking advantage of its coastal conditions. This commitment, coupled with ongoing infrastructure improvements, aims to ensure a high-quality experience for both visitors and participants.
