From the 5th to 8th of December, Gran Canaria will be the world golf centre. The Maspalomas Convention Centre will host the eighth edition of the IGTM (International Golf Travel Market), which will bring together a thousand agents and hundred journalists from 46 countries.

Gran Canaria assumes the commitment to represent Spain, the country with three million of tourists a year who come to play golf as the main objective of their trip, in the organisation of the IGTM. South Africa, France (Biarritz), Dominican Republic and Portgual (Estoril) have been host countries of the last edition, and this is the first time that it is held in Spain.

In December 2004, during the last edition of IGTM in Portugal, it was announced that Gran Canaria will be the location of this large showcase of golf tourism, culminating 16 months of effort for the attraction to this important show, to which various countries have opted.

The golf industry in Spain generates 2,375 million Euros a year, which is an increment of 252% since 1997, when it generated 674 million Euros.
