The Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) has announced plans to boost the profile of the meetings, conventions, incentive and exhibitions industry.

The announcement follows a study by Criterion Communications Inc that concluded that the industry has a low profile due to the absence of any overall organisation to assume responsibility for industry promotion and a tendency to be overshadowed by the leisure travel industry. The result has been limited general awareness that the industry even exists as a distinct entity and the significant benefits it generates for both governments and the communities it serves.
