The Association of Spanish Trade Fairs, AFE, presented its trade fair statistics for 2004 which shows an increase in floor space, exhibitors and visitors.

The figures reflect the activity of the trade fairs organised by AFE in 2004 in Spain and indicate that the trade fair activity maintains and even includes a small improvement.

For the third consecutive year, the trade fairs in Spain exceed the emblematic figure of 15 million visitors, which include identified professionals, the general public (paid entrance) and passes (invites, press, authorities, etc.). The report also indicates that in 2004, it has surpassed the 4 million m2 of exhibition space.

As for the the cause-effect relation between local economies and trade fair events, the study shows that trade fairs are not limited to being a showcase for fast-moving goods and services but also generate direct and indirect employment; pushing the activities of many companies that collaborate and participate in the trade fairs, and provide abundant clientele to the services sector, especially tourism.

These issues and others will be further discussed in the 5th Congress of Spanish Trade Fairs that will take place in Palma de Mallorca on the coming 30th June and 1st July.
