The Mobile World Congress (GSMA) closed its 2010 edition with a slight increase in attendance (over 49,000 visitors from 200 different countries) over the previous year (47,000). Despite these optimistic figures, the congress, held the past few 15-18 February in Barcelona, has not yet recovered to 2007 levels, when it came to the 55,000 attendees.

The mobile phone industry is one of the least affected by the crisis and, according to John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA Limited, “the great attendance at Mobile World Congress certifies the exciting momentum within the industry.” Organizers estimated at 220 million euros for the city benefits generated by the congress and according to Hoffann, GSMA is committed to hold the congress in Barcelona until 2012.
