What is ‘NetZero Events’, the international commitment of the MICE industry? What do ChatGPT and artificial intelligence for events mean? Companies still far from defining sustainability targets in MICE
Created 10 years ago, Spain Meeting and Incentive Association (SIMA) groups convention hotels and DMCs from Spain to help them promote their services in the USA and Canada. The association just organised a tour in Spain to explain better its services and to communicate the extension of its services to the old continent in 2010.

Roberto Torregrossa (Hotel Rey Juan Carlos I) and Regina Herrero (Fira Palace), members of the borrad with José Puebla (Técnica Incentives), reminded participants that the association was created 10 years ago when the tourism promotion board of Spain stopped promoting the destination in North American markets. A group of hotels and DMCs decided to organise jointly their own promotion. They now organise two events in the USA and one in Canada every year, as well as fam trips and presence on trade shows.

The model works, and in 2010 will be expanded to Europe following the same model. A success which, according to the presenters, is due to the fact that the promotional events are very Interactive, mixing workshops with Group activities to facilitate networking between buyers and sellers. But most of all, the promotion is conceived by hotels and DMCs, for hotels and DMCs, with extreme care and taking into account the real needs of these members, better than a hotel distributor or a convention could do.
