Events are becoming more social and social media are their faithful mate. So finds a survey carried out by the event software company Amiando, involving 1500 European event planners.

The study “Social Media & Events Report 2013” draws the following conclusions:

– Social media is recognized by 75% of interviewed as an important marketing tool to communicate and promote events. The three most popular social networks in the sector are Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.

– Event organizers have great confidence in the potential of social networks. The number of organizers who intend to enhance their efforts in this area increased from 75% in 2012 to 80% this year.

– The main objectives to be achieved with the use of social networkings are to increase awareness of individual events (58%) and also to improve the awareness of the brand (49%).

Lack of time is a problem to implement a social media strategy, according to 45% of interviewees. Other hitches mentioned are inadequate know-how in this area of expertise (29%) or lack of staff who can take care of these tasks (29%).

Performance measurement is not the strength of the binomial events and social media. Only 20% of organisers claim to use monitoring tools to track their online strategies.

It seems that this can be an everlasting relationship as long as event planners take time away their schedules and devote greater resources to social media.
