The Latin American Union for Tourism Professionals (UIPT) has just been created formally in San Jose in Costa Rica, an initiative between the Spanish, Costa Rican and Argentinean associations.

The promoting associations of the new supranational organisation are the Asociación Española de Profesionales del Turismo (AEPT), Asociación Costarricense de Profesionales del Turismo (ACOPROT) and the Asociación Civil Foro de Profesionales en Turismo de Argentina (FORO).

According to AEPT, the objectives of the UIPT are similar to the precursor associations, but in the international field, among which highlighted are: the defense and the promotion of the tourism profession, the promotion of association activities in the sector, as well as the training and the adaptation of new technologies. The decision to create UIPT was made in Fitur 2005, during the institutional visit by the two Latin American associations to Madrid and the contacts maintained with AEPT.

The new organisation remains open to the incorporation of more assocations, and in this sense, Mexico and Peru have shown interest to join the UIPT, whose General Secretary has been located permanently to San Jose in Costa Rica, in the headquarter of ACOPROT.
