The Spanish congress and convention centres held more than 4.800 events in 2004 that were attended by nearly 4,2 million persons, 13% more than last year, according to the Asociación de Palacios y Congresos de España (APCE).

By the typology of events, the 29 centres that the association represents hosted a total of 487 congresses, with the participation of 454.000 delegates, as well as 410 conventions with 217,000 participants and 1,395 working sessions with more than 340,000 attendants.

In the same way, the centres held 2,562 non congress events with the attendance of 3.15 million persons.

With regard to the geographic aspect, 59 per cent of the events and 56% of the attendants are circumscribed in the regional area, while the national area represents 32 per cent of the events and 28 per cent of the attendants, data that descends to 9 per cent and 16 per cent in the international area.
