 The Palacio de la Magdalena in Santander hosted on 3rd and 4th of June, industry professionals to the traditional annual meeting organized by the Spain Convention Bureau (SCB), coinciding with its assembly. Good news were announced for our sector.

In this meeting of convention bureaus, but also of other professionals, issues such as the sustainability of conference activities, the contribution of “smart cities” (Smart Cities) to this sector or the famous “public-private partnership” were discussed.

The training part was completed with various social activities such as a boat trip down the famous bay in front of the city, and a dinner in the casino of the city.

The conference was opened by the Mayor of Santander and President of the FEMP, Iñigo de la Serna, by the President of SCB and Mayor of Granada, José Torres Hurtado, and the Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Borrego.

The SCB announced that it has started opening new ways of collaboration with companies in the business tourism sector in order to boost the promotion of Spanish destinations worldwide.

In fact, it has reformed its laws to accommodate as collaborating organizations, businesses and private institutions whose purpose is to promote conference tourism.

In the meeting, this year´s promotional activities were presented: coordination with Turespaña for a joint action plan and better work with the Spanish Tourism Offices abroad for the international promotion of domestic destinations.

And good news: the Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Borrego, announced that next year the government plans to provide economic help to the collaboration agreement that holds together the Spain Convention Bureau (SCB) and Turespaña for the promotion of Spanish destinations of business tourism.

The Barcelona Provincial Council and Gandia were accepted released as new members of the Spain Convention Bureau. Granada will host the next SCB national assembly.

The SCB also presented it annual report.
